The Thrifted Wardrobe – Holiday Parties

It’s that time of year for holiday parties. Some are obligatory and some are anticipated all year long. Either way, you want to look your best. Why? Pictures are usually being taken, so you don’t want a bad look preserved for posterity, do you? Also, this is your life – and you should look good while living it!

Despite conventional wisdom, you DON’T have to be relegated to the green and red section of your closet for these events. In fact, I would highly recommend avoiding that combo all together. Instead, opt for anything metallic, sparkly and with rich color.

So, I’ve got two looks for you; one with pants, one with a dress.

Look 1 – Blue dress, blue velvet jacket, contrast tights and gold shoes

I love this outfit, mostly because it breaks some fashion rules – and I just love breaking rules in-general. Yes, Virginia, you CAN wear tights with open-toe shoes. Also, blue is a fantastically festive holiday color alternate to green and red.

But the best thing about this outfit is the simplicity of putting it together: dress + velvet jacket + tights + metallic shoes. Done. 

Look 2 – Velour pants, jewel-adorned blouse, black jacket

Sometimes, after a long day, the thought of “dressing up” for an after-work party might make you want to strangle someone with holiday garland. Don’t do that.

Instead, slip on some comfy pants – just make sure they have some festive texture. Add a sexy and sparkly shirt, a simple jacket and shoes. Make that blingy shirt the focus, because anything with sparkle instantly qualifies as “holiday” wear in the right context.

Don’t forget some big earrings.
