When I work with clients, comfort is always a concern. Some things can be an exception – perhaps a sexy pair of stilettos you wear occasionally – but comfort should always be at the top when it comes to wardrobe priorities.
Recently, me and my partner in makeover-crime, stylist Tera Rae Stephens, worked our magic on another client who needed a style boost. Check out her account of the makeover from a hair stylist’s perspective!
When I first met Jennifer, she was having the major challenge of dressing for her administrative job which happens to be in a warehouse. Although it was important that she look reasonably professional, she needed to take into account the environment. So, suits were definitely not an option, but some business casual separates probably were.
However, Jennifer had fallen into a rut of wearing a daily tee-and-jeans combo which wasn’t making her feel very confident. What Jennifer hadn’t realized when she was planning her outfits was that we often do not go directly to our place of work and then directly home. We stop for gas on the way, take a lunch and run errands on our way home – all while wearing what we wore to work.
That’s life. And the moral of this story is that, even if we’re not totally jazzed up about what we’re wearing to a job, there’s a lot of life that’s happening during the in-between times for which we need to be well-dressed.
Thankfully, there’s a happy ending to this story. Jennifer and I first got her closet organized and edited. We tossed out most of those t-shirts and were able to find her “wardrobe within a wardrobe” – plenty of casual separates she didn’t know how to wear. Then we took a trip to the Goodwill in Costa Mesa and added 3 pair of new shoes, a skirt, 1 pair of pants and several blouses to her wardrobe.
Jennifer is now making great outfits for life with her new wardrobe and impressing her co-workers with her style! Check it out:
What a beauty, right?

I LOVE Jennifer’s simple, yet chic make-over. It proves that one doesn’t have to rehaul every aspect of their current styling choices, yet simply, to refresh and rejuvenate their current wardrobe and look. The simple chignon hairstyle makes ANY woman feel and look simply sophisticated!
Yup! I nominate my sweet sexy husband. Or me. We are both cute, but could use an update.
Thanks, Vidette! She looks great, right?
